The Power of a Smile

You use the power of a smile to express joy and satisfaction. Smile which you wear on your face is much more important, than the clothes you wear. Smile always says, "I like you. You make me happy. I'm glad to see you."

That's why dogs have such success. They are so pleased to see us that almost jump out of their skin. So it is natural, that we enjoy them. Smile of the baby is exactly the same.

Insincere grin? No, it does not fool anyone. We learned how to recognize an artificial smile and we reject it. Real smile flows from somewhere in the depths of the heart.

People who smile, usually sell, learn and work more efficiently. They are raise happier children too. According to some research, people who smile sincerely on photograph, live longer.

The power of a smile is huge even if no one sees how we smile. If you smile talking on the phone, that smile will be hear in your voice.

People rarely succeed at work if they do not do it with pleasure. If you want to be successful you must carry your duties and have fun from it. If you lost the joy of your work you finally losing.

And what if you feel that you do not want to smile? Two things. First, force yourself to smile. When you are alone, force yourself to whistle or hum a song. Behave as if you have been happy and you see that you actually will be happy.

"Action seems to follow feeling, but really action and feeling go together; and by regulating the action, which is under the more direct control of the will, we can indirectly regulate the feeling, which is not." - William James

Everyone in the world are looking for happiness, and there is only one way to find them. You have to control your thoughts. Happiness does not come from the outside. It depends on what is in us.

Who you are, where you are, what you do and what are you doing at the moment, does not make you happy or unhappy. What is important, is what you think about all this. For example, two people located in exactly the same position and doing the same, one may be lucky and the other not. The difference is in attitude.

Your smile is a messenger of your good will. Your smile brightens the lives of all who see it. For someone who watches dozens of grim faces, your smile is like a ray of sun piercing through the clouds. Especially when that someone is just being harassed by the boss, clients, teachers, parents or children, your smile will remind him that not all is hopeless, that there is still joy in the world . Remember the power of a smile does not provide any value as long as it does not donate to someone.

Fear of Success: Is It Holding You Back?

By Judith Albright

It is a rare human being who does not want to be successful, so why is it that so many people are afraid of achieving success? Opportunities are plentiful, so what is it that keeps us from seizing and running with them? The reasons are many, but primarily it boils down to the fact that success itself is not what we fear most. What we fear is the price we might have to pay for achieving it.

Ironically, fear of failure is often the underlying cause of fear of success. Even though they are closely related, there is a difference. Fear of failure is a fear of making mistakes and becoming diminished in the eyes of others. Conversely, fear of success is more about feelings of unworthiness and not being good enough. It is also a fear that success is fragile and cannot be maintained, and that happiness will remain elusive no matter what is gained or accomplished.

While we primarily think of fear of success in relationship to career and work, it raises its unwelcome head in other areas of life as well. For example, it can prevent us from applying for a scholarship or working toward a graduate degree. It can keep us from searching for a better job, finding the right mate, maintaining a good marriage, or assuming responsibility within an organization. Fear of success is particularly problematic for women because they believe if they are more successful than their spouse or partner they could intimidate and drive that person away, or their very success will make them unapproachable and not lovable.

For both men and women there are various common sabotaging beliefs underlying fear of success. Which of the following might be a stumbling block for you?

  • My time won't be my own-I will be a slave and have to give up my life.
  • I will lose my identity and will no longer be myself.
  • I won't fit in-my friends will avoid me and I will be lonely.
  • I won't have anything left to achieve or look forward to.
  • People will scrutinize my entire life and judge me harshly.
  • I will be too visible and won't be able to hide anymore.
  • Others might find out I really don't know what I am doing.
  • Someone close to me could feel hurt or resentful.
  • I won't be able to maintain my success which could all be swept away in a heartbeat.
  • People might think me ruthless or selfish.
  • I will be besieged by people wanting money or favors.

How to Address Your Fears

The best way to address your fears is to recognize them for what they are. Much of what we believe falls apart or seems absurd once you start examining them under a microscope.

Be clear about what success means to you.  An ideal definition of success might be a meaningful life, lasting relationships, and work that provides personal fulfillment, financial prosperity, and makes a difference. What is your definition? How would you end this statement? "If I were successful I would be... Once you have a clear idea of what success looks like for you, start focusing on what matters most. With each action you take, ask yourself if it will get you closer to your goal or farther from it. Do not allow yourself to get sidetracked with superficial distractions.

Identify and analyze all the downsides of being successful. Take a close look at what it is that you actually fear. Consider the following question: if I am truly successful (according to what my definition of success is), what is the worst thing that could happen? What would I have to do or be that is different, and what would be the overall impact on my life? What would change? Can I accept and live with those changes?

Stop gauging yourself by other people's achievements. No two people or situations are ever the same and we all came into this life with our own individual gifts and talents. Stop dwelling on your shortcomings and concentrate on your assets. Determine what yours are and use them to your advantage. And regardless of how small, celebrate your own milestones and accomplishments. When you feel good about yourself and what you are doing, it is harder for others to shake your confidence.

Stop focusing on competing. While it is wonderful to appreciate and be inspired by others and to learn from them, becoming embroiled in a fierce competition with someone else is not only a waste of time, it sets you up for disappointment and failure. The only one you need to compete with is yourself-aim to be the best you can and strive to break only your own personal records.

Seek help when you need it. No one has the answers to everything and it is no disgrace to ask for help when we find ourselves in over our heads. It is not necessary to have all the answers ourselves. It is about knowing where to find them when we need them. Henry Ford of Ford Motor Company fame is a good example of this. He saw no need to know everything himself and gathered people around him he could rely on to provide the right answers.

Stop trying to be perfect. No one is perfect and no one expects you to be. Perfection is a lofty goal that is rarely met. We can make ourselves crazy trying to achieve this, or we can accept our imperfections as part of who we are. Avoid focusing on whatever you did not do, or what you should have done differently. It is only human to make mistakes, so forgive yourself and everyone else will too. You might even try poking a little fun at yourself-a little humor can take the sting out of many situations.

Learn from your mistakes. You are bound to make mistakes and when you do, learn what you can from them. Just be sure your future mistakes are new ones and you are not repeating any old ones. Mistakes are the stepping stones of progress, and if you are not failing from time to time you are probably not trying hard enough. Significant achievements are almost invariably realized at the end of a long road of failures. Something you may consider one of your greatest mistakes might actually turn out to be the link to your greatest achievement.

Live Your Life With an Attitude of Gratitude

By Michele Tocci

Cultivating gratefulness enhances your life and will provide long-term emotional rewards. How grateful are you for your life, for those around you, for where you live, for having running water everyday?

We live in an extremely materialistic age. It is standard to expect so much, often too much. The fact we have and own so much appears to have an impact on how grateful we actually are. Some of us tend to focus on what we don't have at times rather than what we do have.

Imagine what it would be like if you started every morning being grateful. Grateful for a wonderful night's sleep, grateful for a warm bed, grateful for a comfortable mattress, grateful for being able to sleep in your own room. Wouldn't that be a positive way to start the day?

I once heard someone say - don't wait to have a wonderful day - start your day in a wonderful way. So why not start your day by being grateful from the moment you wake up.

Imagine the impact it would have on those around you if you show true gratitude. You would be the person they aspire to be. As we get older, we do tend to be more grateful, grateful for our health, our family, our friends, good food, at times even a sunny day. When we are grateful, we magnify our positive emotions.

The impact this attitude of gratitude would have on your children or grandchildren and generally the people around you would create an incredible ripple. You would be leading by example in such a positive way.

Gratitude is about appreciation; it is recognising the small details around you that are special. We take so much for granted. We start to appreciate 'the little things'. You start to see good in so many places. Living your life being grateful means that in so many small ways, everyday will be a positive experience.

Keeping a gratitude journal is a fantastic idea as it allows you to spend time each day thinking about what you can appreciate in your life. Oprah Winfrey once said:

"If you look at what you have in life,
you'll always have more.

If you look at what you don't have in life,
you'll never have enough."

So why not spread the gratitude and teach others around you how to be grateful. Lead by example; start to send thank you notes to friends for small things. It could be a call, a text or an email.

Display gratitude and thankfulness to those around you often. The more people that hear and experience your appreciation, the bigger the ripple effect.

The bonus is that the more you display appreciation and gratitude, the more you will experience and notice the small things that we do for others. At times, if we let it, our life can feel hectic and we can reach our capacity and then comes overwhelm; however, when we stop, take a moment to enjoy the present that is when we can see, feel and experience, all the wonderful things and people that surround us every day.

Promoting this is promoting life. Live your life everyday with an attitude of gratitude.

5 Ways to Reduce Worry Right Now

by Colin G Smith

Everybody worries about things from time to time. Amongst the most common things people worry about are; Health, Work, Children, Looks, Age and Money. It's only really a problem when a person starts dwelling on worrying thoughts. Obviously it would be best to simply 'stop worrying' but this is easier said than done, unless you know about the following worry reducing methods

1. Get Above it All

When you're worrying you tend to focussing on big worrying images. By changing perspective and 'getting above it all' you can quickly change your response to the source of the worry and feel more detached and objective. Go and ahead and think about the thing that worries you. Now in your mind step back and imagine seeing yourself 'down there with the worry' as you float higher up to get a bird's eye view of it all.

2. Meditation

It's well substantiated that meditation can help to reduce stress and anxiety. By doing basic breathing meditation you can reduce your feeling of worry. Simple get comfortable. Close your eyes and concentrate on the sensation of the breath going and out. Do this for ten minutes and notice how you feel afterwards!

3. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

EFT has become quite well known and for good reason. EFT or 'energy tapping' is a way of using the fingers to gently tap the meridian points on the body which causes blocks in the human energy system to be released. By tapping away 'worry' you will feel more inner calm instead.

4. Art Therapy

This can be done in a very simple yet effective way. It's been observed that when people are stressed or agitated they tend to doodle with angular strokes. Because of the mind/body connection you can send calming vibes to the mind by drawing curvy / circular motions. Simply start doodling with pen or pencil, curves, circles and figure eights.

5. Practice Gratitude

The feeling of gratitude is a great antidote to worry and anxiety. Pick something really basic that you can feel grateful for right now. Are you in a warm, safe place? Feel grateful about that. Now what else can you feel grateful about? Friendships? Family? Pets?

Worrying at the end of the day is just a series of thought processes. Images and words in the mind. We can interrupt these thoughts and instead think about more positive things. By practicing simple methods like the one's above we can learn to reduce our worrying and enjoy life more.
