Employee Motivation For Success

If the employer is able to determine what motivates employees, he will be capable of ensuring that his workers concentrate on accomplishing the company's objectives and also make certain that they do not leave the company.

David McClellands theory emphasised the need for people to accomplish something. He suggests that people will work harder where they are given responsibility and are empowered to make decisions. He also suggests that a work environment where staff are given achievable targets and are encouraged to take calculated risks will produce highly motivated employees.

Feeling like a part of the team. This goes directly to the heart of feeling better. When we feel like we are a part of something bigger than us, it makes us feel better. Society and religion are all based upon this principle. When we are working with others who all have similar goals it has the powerful effect of making us feel as though we are doing the right thing. When people join organizations, or even when they think about God, they become relieved when they know they are part of something much greater than themselves. Any employee motivation program should incorporate basic principles designed to help employees feel like they are part of a team.

Abraham Maslow one of the most known historical psychologists, gave us Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Understanding this hierarchy can be useful in strategy planning for employee motivation programs, but regardless of the operating level, the motivation is still to feel better. Feeling better is why we work, build friendships, eat, sleep, get married, have children, go on vacation, strive to succeed. Everything we do is designed to help make us feel better. Although this concept may seem simplistic, it is at the heart of motivation, and key to understanding how to develop employee motivation programs.

Motivating employees is not an easy task, due to the fact that what motivates employees seems to change overtime. To say, different employees are motivated in different ways according to their needs. For example, one employee will be motivated to do his task by way of responsibility, while on the other hand another employee will be motivated by monetary rewards. However, it is possible to motivate an employee only if they want to be motivated. As a result, it is thus vital to identify the reason and create the atmosphere that encourages the non-performing employees to refresh and motivate themselves. In other words, it is thus important to try and find out what really motivates the employee.

One of the keys to being a successful manager is the ability to motivate employees to perform at their best. When employees aren't interested in their work or they're bored, employee motivation is low and productivity drops. Generally, employees are willing and able to work if they feel their job is important and they are appreciated. Managers who give recognition and feedback are likely to create a workplace built on an expectation of success.

Communication skills - remember and use names.

Remembering people's names is important when you want to improve your communication skills. The average person is interested in their own name, far more, than in the other names on Earth, put together. You should remember and use people names. This will be a subtle and very effective compliment. However, if you forget them, or pronounce it wrong, you will be in a very unpleasant situation.

You still get to know new people. You speak with them for a while and forget their names before the end of the conversation.

You should be aware of the importance of people names and always remember, that they are sacred for them. They are the exclusive property of a man with whom you speak.

Libraries and museums owe their richest collections, thanks to the people who could not bear the thought that their names will disappear from human memory.

Information, which we give, or request presented by us, has a special importance, if we add to it's, name and the surname of the person with whom we speak.

Improve morale by praise.

If you want to improve morale and make someone to do what you want - there is only one good way. You have to do something that will make that person will want to do it. You can try to use force to compel someone. In this way, however, you do not improve morale. Moreover, as soon as you disappear from sight that someone, stop doing what you wanted from him, or even sometimes on purpose do it wrong. Conclusion is that - in order for someone to do what you want you have to give him what he wants.

What people want?

People often need to feel that they are important and appreciated, that lies deep in human nature. The fact that you feel that you are important separates you from the animals. This desire for a sense of importance is often move our civilization forward. Without that desire we were no different from animals. This desire for a sense of importance cause that the richest family in town build the house much too large for their needs.

Why people go crazy?

Sometimes people, to get a sense of importance and to interest others, hurt themselves and in this way gaining a sense of importance. Sometimes people go crazy, because in the unreal world of madness they find a sense of self-importance, which they do not have experienced in the real world. If there are people who want a sense of importance so badly, that for this they lose their mind, imagine what miracles you can make by knowing and using this aspect of people mind.

Praise, appreciation and encouragement.

The only way you can convince a man to reveal what is best in it is by appreciation and encouragement. Nothing destroys ambition in people as criticism. There is no one, even among the greatest, who has not worked better and not put in the work even more effort if it is appreciated, but they never would have done that as a result of criticism. We care about our children's bodies, friends and employees, but do care about their ambition?

Praise vs. flattery.

Of course you need to distinguish between praise of flattery. Flattery rarely works on reasonable people. It is shallow, selfish and dishonest. So usually fails. But some people are so hungry for appreciation that swallow whatever they are told. In the long run, flattery is causing more harm than good. This is false as false money and must make trouble once transferred to someone else.

The difference between praise and flattery? One is sincere and the other is not. One draws from the heart, and the second from mouth. The first is not selfish and the other is.

We are all human, and we want to be appreciated. It is a kind of payment, which is always welcome. Sincere praise makes more than reprimand and taunt. Injured people not only do not change, but also once you have said something, you cannot undo the result of having said it.

Stop thinking about your accomplishments and your own wishes. Try to see the advantages of others. Then forget about flattery. Sincerely and honestly give praise others. People will cherish your words, keep them as a treasure for life and repeat them for years, when you have long forgotten about them. In this way you improve morale of your co-workers, family members and even make someone to do what you want.
